This specialty combines kidney disease and treatment of kidney failure, dialysis and kidney transplant, urology surgery to break up and remove stones by endoscopy and laser, and treatment of prostate enlargement and urinary-tract tumours.

It also covers andrology: treatment of erectile dysfunction, varicocele, delayed fertility in men, and hormonal problems.

Before travel we arrange a review of kidney-function tests and imaging with a specialist consultant, and explain the required intervention and whether it can be done by endoscopy, with an estimate of the stay length and cost.
